South-central Iowa counties are currently under a moderate drought with some areas now under a severe drought. The drought conditions are causing major concerns for both crop and livestock producers. To help address those concerns, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be hosting six free drought meetings to discuss drought related issues.

Van Buren County will be hosting a meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Roberts Memorial Building on the Van Buren County Fairgrounds in Keosauqua.

Meeting topics and speakers include crop growth and development under drought conditions covered by Rebecca Vittetoe, extension field agronomist; Patrick Wall, extension beef specialist, discussing feeding drought damaged crops, including issues with drought silage; and information will be available on crop insurance considerations.

For information, contact the Van Buren County Extension Office at 319-293-3039. No preregistration is required.
