Maharishi University of Management student Natalie Baginski casts her vote for the Nov. 6 general election in the Argiro Student Center Conference Room on the M.U.M. campus during her lunch hour Thursday. A unique Iowa law allowed citizens to petition for a satellite absentee voting station at the campus site as well as at Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store Saturday. Petitions must garner 100 signatures from county voters in order for election officials to hold the voting event. All residents of Fairfield and of Center and Buchanan Townships could vote between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday. Poll workers said 89 residents voted Wednesday, most of them students. They said several residents of Center Township voted as well. “It’s nice to not have to leave campus, or wait in lines,” said Baginski, who is studying for a masters degree in vedic science. “If they’re going to go through the trouble to make this happen, I might as well take advantage of it.”
