East Adams to close Monday for paving

By Andy Hallman, Ledger news editor | Apr 04, 2018

The city of Fairfield has announced that East Adams Avenue will be closed from the 600 block to Maple Street beginning 8 a.m. Monday.

The street is being closed for paving. In addition, the intersection of East Adams Avenue and South Maple Street will be closed starting today through Friday to replace a water main.

In a letter to homeowners in the neighborhood, Fairfield City Engineer Melanie Carlson wrote, “We appreciate your patience regarding the work on East Adams Avenue. In addition to utility relocations along the street, the city has battled several major water main breaks at the intersection of Adams and Maple.”

Carlson was referring to water main breaks near South Maple on consecutive days last week. A crew from the water department spent all day March 27 repairing a water main break that forced water to be shut off from Glasgow Road to D Street, and along Maple Street from Adams to Madison. The crew finished their work at 3:30 a.m. the next day, but had to be called back to the area at 7 p.m. for another break. This forced the city to shut off water to customers along Maple Street and a few on Madison.

While East Adams Avenue is closed, residents may park on the open portions of Adams or in Pathfinders RC&D’s parking lot at 304 S. Maple. Trash and recycling should be taken to the intersection of Maple and Adams on the normal pickup day.

Questions can be directed to city hall at 472-6193.
