Ed Malloy: An experienced leader

By Dean Draznin | May 17, 2018

To the editor:

The Democratic primary is June 5, and I encourage people to vote for Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy, Democrat for Iowa State Senate.

Here’s why: Under Ed Malloy’s leadership, Fairfield has become nationally recognized as one of the most innovative small cities in the country — named “America’s Most Entrepreneurial City,” an “Iowa Great Place,” and one of the “Top 10 Small Cities to Visit in America” (Smithsonian Magazine).

This January, expedia.com chose Fairfield to represent Iowa as their “50 Best Escapes in All 50 States.” In his first year as mayor, Ed led Fairfield in a citywide strategic planning and economic development study that positioned us as a rising star among Iowa cities with its diverse arts and culture, dynamic economy, tourism-caliber attractions, and leadership on sustainability and wellness initiatives.

His forward-thinking leadership sparked private and public collaborations that resulted in many unprecedented achievements — a citywide reduction of energy use of 8.5 percent (measured by Alliant), designation as a Blue Zone, the monthly Art Walk which brings people from all over Iowa to our city, the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, the new outdoor swimming pool, the Cambridge SportsPlex, and the 17-mile Loop Trail.

Ed’s top priority is revitalizing rural Iowa, and his track record in Fairfield makes him the strongest candidate to represent us. He’s the experienced leader we can count on to bring good jobs, better schools, access to quality health care, and clean water to our four county district and to Iowa.

He has the grit to stand up against the special interests that have placed a stranglehold on our legislature, and the skill to reach across the aisle to inspire collaboration and cooperation.

We need to put Ed’s decades of success to work for Iowa. Vote for Ed Malloy, Democrat for Iowa State Senate on June 5!
