Waugh kept busy at her home relays, picking up wins in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and placing second behind classmate Sam Fritz in the 400.

The weather cooperated just long enough for the Fairfield Middle School girls to host their annual Fairfield Relays Monday, and the eighth-graders took advantage of the nice conditions on their home track.

Anchored by a trio of victories from Sam Fritz and two wins from teammate Kenady Waugh, the Trojans tallied 130 points to finish atop the six-team field. Mount Pleasant finished in distant second place with 101 points and Aldo Leopold was third with 64.

Fritz picked up victories in the 400 (1:06.07), 1500 (5:32) and open-800 (2:34). Waugh was first in both the 100 (14.32) and 200 (30.96), and she finished right behind Fritz in the 400 with a second-place time (1:06.14).

The Trojans also received wins from Mikaela Lunsford in the shot put (26’ 5”), and Anuja Pharasi, Maggie Ferrel, Emily Hanna and Ashlyn Elmore in the 4x800-relay (12:01).

Individual second-place finishes came from Jada Lippincott in the discus (74”) and Kailey Kaska in the high jump (4’ 5”). The 4x200 team of Lippincott, Sarah Swanson, Shelby Heston and Brynna Bowman placed second (2:04.73), as did Corynn Klehm, Lunsford, Elmore and Kaylee Watson in the 4x400.

Olivia Hammel finished third in the shot put (24’ 9.5”) and Elmore was third in the 800 (2:50.93). Kylie Kurtz was third in the 100-hurdles (18.84), Emily Hanna won bronze in the 1500 (6:22) and Bowman was third in the 200 (30.58). Heston, Lippincott, Kurtz and Ferrel teamed up for third place in the distance medley (5:15), and the sprint medley team of Megan Sullivan, Swanson, Lippincott and Watson took third as well (2:12.86).

Seventh-graders win four events Monday

The Fairfield seventh-grade girls won four events and finished third out of six teams with 80.5 points Monday at their home relays.

Amiah Neff crushed the competition in the 400-meter dash, claiming a nearly five-second victory in 1:07.29. Neff also was on the winning 4x100 with Aluna Olaniyi, Kristin Burnstedt and Ashtyn Drish; the foursome won the race in 56.47 ticks. Burnstedt tacked on a victory in the 200 (31.29), and Katrina Cecchini, Hailey Patrick, Ella Pollet and Lucia Van Dijk eased to a win in the 4x800 (12:54).

Second-place times were earned by Neff in the 100 (14.19); the sprint medley team of Drish, Olaniyi, Sophie Allen and Carin Corrick (2:19.23); as well as Van Dijk, Allen, Corrick and Drish in the 4x400 (5:04).

Burnstedt was third in the high jump (4’ 0”), Drish finished third in the long jump (12’ 2.5”) and the 4x200 team consisting of Claire Christensen, Shanti Williams, Amanda Carminhato and Burnstedt also claimed third place (2:16.09).
