Electricity costs likely to rise

By Associated Press | May 21, 2014

Electricity prices are most likely on their way up across much of the U.S. as coal-burning plants, the workhorses of the nation’s power system, shut down in response to environmental regulations and economic forces. Dozens of coal plants across 20 states are expected to close over the next three years. Prices changes will vary from state to state, but the national average is expected to rise 4 percent this year, the highest since 2008.
