Elks Lodge to hold junior golf tournament

Jun 11, 2014

The Elks Lodge No. 1192 Junior Golf Tournament will be played Tuesday at the Fairfield Walton Club.

This tournament is for boys and girls from the ages of 10-17. There will be four age groups for both boys and girls. Lunch will be provided at the event, and registration is at 8:30 a.m.

This tournament as a whole is to support participation in youth sports. The Fairfield Elks Lodge is one of many across the country supporting youth golf tournaments in the coming weeks. The program was started in 2001 in Tucson as a way to capitalize on Tiger Woods and the boom in popularity of golf at the time.

First and second place winners will advance to the Elks State Junior Golf Tournament, which will be held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora on July 29. The state tournament will start at 9 a.m., but the driving range will open at 8 a.m. There won’t be a charge for kids at the driving range. Winners of each flight in the event will receive trophies and each place winner will receive a medal.

For more information on the Fairfield tournament, contact Gary Henry at 919-7477 or Tom Voorhees at 455-9477. The state chairman for youth golf is Eric Miller, who can be contacted at 515-314-8857 if there are questions regarding the state tournament.
