Elmore, Fritz, Drish, Bloomquist dominate in 4x800

The Fairfield Trojans took the gold medal in both the 4x800 and 4x400 on Thursday in the Demon Relays at Washington’s Case Field.

In the 4x800, Ashlyn Elmore ran leadoff, Sam Fritz was second, Danae Drish third and Ashley Bloomquist anchor. Their winning time of 10:51.63 was almost 16 full seconds ahead of runner-up Fort Madison.

In the 4x400, Fritz led off, Aluna Olaniyi followed, Kara Jeffrey ran third and Malory Jones anchored. The Trojans’ winning time was 4:26.28, more than 5 seconds ahead of runner-up Washington.

Olaniyi teamed up with Carin Corrick, Sarah Swanson and Kristen Daugherty to take second place in the 4x100 shuttle hurdle (1:15.49).

Fairfield took a silver medal in the distance medley with a time of 4:49.50. Jillian Dunlap ran leadoff, Julia Fritz followed, Jeffrey ran third and Jones anchored.

In the 4x200, Fairfield took silver (1:55.06): Alexis Jones led off, Malory Jones followed, Amiah Neff was third and Olaniyi anchored.

Standing out on the individual side for Fairfield were Bloomquist, who took bronze in both the 1,500 (5:13.96) and 3,000 (11:26.97), and Fritz, taking third in the 400 (1:06.03).

Among other highlights for Fairfield, Kristen Daugherty took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:19.92), Maggie Ferrel placed fifth in the 3,000 (12:08.40), Olaniyi fifth in the 100 (13.61), Kaylee Watson fifth in the discus throw (88-5), Olivia Roberts sixth in the shot put (31-04), Corrick seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (18.23), Elmore seventh in the 400 (1:11.09), Hailey Pohren-Gevock eighth in the 400 (1:12.10) and Delaney Mondia ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:25.76).

Out of 23 competitors in the 200, Fairfield’s Amber Burroughs placed 12th and Blair Bowman was 14th.

Fairfield finished third overall as a team with 83 points. Mt. Pleasant won the meet with 166 points and Washington was runner-up (120). Ft. Madison was fourth (58), followed by Wapello (50), Highland (44), Columbus (28), WACO (17) and Winfield-Mt. Union (13).
