Fairfield Area Weighted Blankets

Nov 02, 2017

Fairfield Area Weighted Blankets

A Fairfield group making weighted blankets to benefit area children and adults with special needs is now working under the name “Fairfield Area Weighted Blankets.”

The group will discontinue using references to “Sharing The Weight” so as not to create confusion with the nonprofit group based in Ottumwa.

The Fairfield Area Weighted Blankets group will continue to meet most months to make blankets. Meetings will be held at SunnyBrook Assisted Living, with the last two 2017 events to be 1:30-3:30 p.m. Nov. 18 and Dec. 11.

No meeting will take place in January, but beginning in February, meetings will be held on Saturdays due to lack of attendance at the Monday gatherings.

The 2018 events scheduled so far are set for 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, and May 12.

Weighted blankets made by the Fairfield group have been, and will continue to be, given free to area children and adults with special needs.

Fairfield Area Weighted Blankets is open to all ages and gender, and without charge for participation; though monetary donations are welcome, they are not requested.

To help with supplies, donations of material, thread, and other items with which to make blankets has been received from numerous area individuals, gift cards have been donated by Fairfield Walmart, a monetary donation was received from The Arc of Jefferson & Nearby Counties, and pellets for the weight in the blankets have been donated by Performance Pipe and Lick Creek Enterprises.

Anyone with questions can contact Joanne Ancell at 472-4736.
