Fairfield Art Association sets new 12X12 Canvas Show

Aug 20, 2014
PHOTO SUBMITTED BY SUZAN BATES KESSEL Last year’s 12 X 12 Canvas Show, above, was such a success, Fairfield Art Association is repeating it this year. Participants can pick up a canvas now and return the finished art by Nov. 3. The show will run Nov. 7 through Jan. 31 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The Fairfield Art Association announces a “call for entries” for artists to participate in an exhibit Nov. 7 through Jan. 31 in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Main Gallery.

Last year’s 12X12 Canvas Show was such a success, it is being repeated this year.

A few minor changes have been made to the format. Adult artists must be a current 2014 Fairfield Art Association member; dues can be paid upon participation.

An entry fee of $10 will get a participant an 12X12 canvas, which can be picked up anytime the Fairfield Art Association Studio in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center is open: 1-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

Finished canvases must be returned by Nov. 3.

Only one entry per member is allowed.

Artwork must be done directly on the canvas, not on another material glued or taped on the canvas because it falls off. Other materials can be stretched all the way around the canvas and secured on the back, such as fiber art, collage or photos printed on canvas. Art can extend 1 inch in any direction from the canvas.

The entry should be labeled with artist name, address, phone/email, title of work, media and price. A label is provided on the entry forms which are available at the art association studio.

Canvas art must be for sale and priced under $300. If the artwork sells before the show ends, it should remain hung in the exhibit. The art association handles all sales with 70 percent going to the artist and 30 percent to the art association.

A new awards event is being planned for January, with additional dollars for four cash awards to outstanding artworks. A “people’s choice” will be selected in December, with the winning artist receiving tickets to a Fairfield Arts & Convention Center Artist Series production.
