Fairfield boys fall on the road Friday night at Mt. Pleasant

By Justin Webster | Dec 04, 2017

Consistency was not a strength for the Fairfield boys’ basketball team Friday night in a 73-44 loss at Mt. Pleasant.

The Trojans trailed 21-9 at the end of one period, and although they were able to outscore the host Panthers 18-17 in the second, Head Coach Mick Flattery’s team was still down by double digits at the half.

Another low-output offensively in the third, led to a 21-6 deficit in the quarter alone, and a 26 point differential in the ballgame.

The Trojans picked up the pace in the fourth, but still failed to close the gap, losing by 29 on the road in their Southeastern Conference opener.

Carson Crile did his part offensively, mostly at the line, compiling 18 points on 4-6 shooting from the field, with 10 made free throws. Crile was also credited with 40 percent of the team’s rebounds, pulling in 14 total.

Juniors Collin Breen and Tristin Waugh were second in scoring with six points each, while sophomore Drew Martin was second for Fairfield with five rebounds.

Next for Fairfield is the Ottumwa Bulldogs Tuesday night following the conclusion of the girls’ game.
