Fairfield brush pick-up starts Monday morning

Sep 29, 2017

Fairfield will pick up brush from residences beginning at 7 a.m. Monday.

The city’s guidelines for acceptable brush are:

• All burnable and chippable brush should be put in a neat pile adjacent to the street.

• Brush pick-up is for residential use only. The city will not pick up from businesses.

• Nothing larger than 24 inches in diameter and 13 feet in length will be accepted.

• This does not include leaves and yard waste, which will continue to be picked up in the city yard-waste bags with regular recycling pickup.

• Brush must be placed by the curb and away from poles, fences, and water shut-offs before Monday to ensure pick up. City crews will not make a second trip.

• If any damage occurs due to brush being placed over water shut-offs, the city will not be responsible.

• Piles must not interfere with traffic.

• This will be an ideal time to do any brush/tree trimming.

Compost site

Any resident of Fairfield can use the compost site by hauling their own brush, limbs and yard clippings to the compost site. Signs are posted at designated areas for specific types of yard waste; compost accordingly.

The compost site is not for use by contractors.

Burning

Burning of yard waste, leaves and brush is allowed during the daylight hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the months of April, October and November. Burning is allowable only when wind conditions are appropriate and must be contained and supervised at all times.

Burning is not allowed in streets or alleys.

Burning of trash and household garbage and scrap building materials is not allowed.

Yard waste disposal

For yard and garden waste, such as grass clippings and leaves, but not brush or limbs, “Waste Management Yard Waste” bags can be purchased for $1.25 each at Fairfield City Hall and Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drugstore. The bags will need to be placed on the curb, 3 feet away from household trash. and will be picked up on regular trash day.

Tree planting

Those interested in removing or planting trees in the city right-of-way must first file an application and obtain approval from the planning administrator. There is no cost to this.

Further information can be obtained at the city’s website: cityoffairfieldiowa.com.
