The Fairfield FFA spent a day at the Iowa Capitol in Des Moines March 14.

The group toured the beautiful capitol building, going floor to floor to learn about the capitol’s history. The building was constructed between 1871 and 1886, and is the only five-domed capitol in the country. The building has much detail and work put into it.

The group had the chance of going all the way to the top into the dome of the building.

The FFA members also had the opportunity to talk to Rep. Curt Hanson and Sen. Mark Chelgren.

Hanson represents House District 82, which includes areas of Jefferson, Van Buren and Davis counties. Chelgren represents Iowa Senate District 41, which includes parts of Jefferson, Wapello, Van Buren and Davis counties.

The FFA members asked Hanson and Chelgren questions and learned about the current legislation being debated in the state House and Senate.

The FFA members said they had a great time learning about the history of the Capitol.

Jefferson County Farm Bureau sponsored the Fairfield FFA’s “Day at the Capitol.”
