Fairfield First Fridays celebrates local talent

Aug 30, 2017

Fairfield First Fridays’ September event will focus on local talent Friday on and near the city square.

An open mic, hosted by Paulina Sinaga, will be 6-10 p.m. at the Ron Prill Bandstand in Central Park, then continue at 10:30 p.m. at The Depot Brewery. The open mic event will feature local talent.

Many local artists, local businesses, nonprofit organizations and a few new additions will be set up in and around Central Park, and one section of the park will have lawn games for some friendly competition with family and friends.

Many businesses, restaurants, galleries and venues will open on and near the square during Fairfield First Fridays:

• Art FiftyTwo will open “Mark Shafer, Mini Retrospective” from 6-9 p.m. during Fairfield First Fridays. The show will continue from 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays through Sept. 23.

• Morning Star Studio will have a new show: “Private Collection by Bolivian Artist Carolos Crespos.” Crespos is a dentist by trade, but an artist by heart. He is self-taught and his art is spontaneous. His daughter Erika Perkins is sharing her personal collection of her father’s work while he is here on a family visit. Crespos also is a baritone vocalist and will be singing a cappella for Fairfield’s Tango Dancers at 7, 8 and 9 p.m.

Also at Morning Star Studio, its facade fundraising art auction continues through Oct. 6. The DeAngelis’ Private Collection of Marc Zimmerman Originals is being auctioned. This collection of 1980s abstract pastel landscapes and collages by noted artist and former Fairfield resident Marc Zimmerman is delightfully playful and bold as it weaves in and out from abstract to realistic.

• Americus Gallery will be showing Christopher Kufner’s original oil paintings, featuring Italian/French landscapes, figurative works and large-format photography on archival paper of the Tuscan countryside, original oil paintings by Kim Kufner, watercolor and ink paintings by Genevra Bell, pastel farm landscapes by Gordon Kellenberger, art glass vases by David Lotton, leaping koi sculptures by Dale Divoky, and diochroic glass jewelry by Pedro Lujano.

• Crest Jewel welcomes Janu Gems with gemstones and gemstone beads, and Fairfield jewelry artists Margaret Zacny and Brandon Lojas displaying examples of their gemstone rings and necklaces. Displays also include: Richard Trice’s “Surrealistic Images Inspired by Nature,” Terrence Kennedy’s mixed media “Art and Portraiture,” and David Kupferman’s abstracts on paper and canvas.

• Fairfield Art Association continues its “To Iowa with Love” by Julie Brokken in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Main Gallery Bidding on the silent suction of “See The Music — Tune Into Our Vibe” Summer Art Installation in the Main Gallery closes at 8 p.m.

• Henderson’s Gallery & Framing will have Joan Webster’s “Price Retrospective Art Show,” with sculptures and paintings for her New York City shows.

• ICON Gallery will exhibit “Prototypes: The Creative Work of Allen Cobb.”

• Revelations will display paintings by Jennifer Blair, paintings by John Schirmer, and yantras by Peter Clemens.
