Fairfield girl on state champion AAU team

The Iowa Barnstormers AAU girls’ basketball team won the Iowa State AAU Tournament held Feb. 22-24 in Des Moines.

The Barnstormers defeated All Iowa Attack in the championship game, 51-34. They will play in the National AAU Tournament July 12-17 in Kings Island, Ohio. To prepare for the National Championship, the team will participate in tournaments in St. Louis, Springfield, Chicago, Wisconsin, Omaha and Minneapolis.

Fairfield Middle School seventh-grader Nicole Buch plays on the team. The team is based in Iowa City, and its players come from around the state. The rest of the team consists of Grace Berg (Indianola), Kiana Barney (Cedar Falls), Madie Sorensen (Adair), Kamryn Finley (Marion), Tatum Koenig (West Liberty), Allie Woolridge (Center Point), Mary Crompton (Iowa City), Mackenzie Rogers (Mediapolis) and Olivia Hellweg (Cedar Rapids).

The team is coached by Mediapolis Head Coach Todd Rogers. The Barnstormers have been nationally ranked for the past two years.
