The Fairfield girls soccer team held their end of season awards banquet Monday night in the high school commons area.

Head Coach Brittany Winslow and the Trojans shared memories and a meal before celebrating their 2018 season that ended with an overall record of 8-9 and a Southeast Conference mark of 4-5 that included an 0-2 loss at Mt. Pleasant May 29 in the second round of the Class 2A soccer tournament.

Winslow said that, “Like anything, I learned quite a bit my first year. I really enjoyed coaching and I look forward to next year.

As for this year, Winslow said, “The girls improved as the season went on, and although we were 4-4 in the conference, we played really well and split with Mt. Pleasant and Fort Madison.”

The Trojans will lose a lot of talent and experience to graduation, “This was a great group of girls! exclaimed Winslow. “We were well balanced across the grades except for only one junior. The seniors were a tight knit group of girls and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.”

What will come in 2019?

“Next year will most likely be a rebuilding year. We will have one senior, six juniors and six sophomores,” explained Winslow.

“The underclassmen really started stepping up this season, so I look forward to seeing how much they grow during other sports in the offseason.

The soccer program itself will keep working to improve.

“I have encouraged the girls to join the summer lifting program offered by FHS and moving forward I hope they will continue to join other sports or stay active in the weight training program.”
