CEDAR FALLS — Fairfield girls’ track coach Ron Hunerdosse took just eight runners with him to Monday’s Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls, but the small group produced more than its fair share of standout performances.

Junior Marisa Repp and senior Sydney Howard earned a pair of top-five finishes, and the Trojans worked their way into the top 20 in five other events.

Repp eclipsed the 5-feet mark in the high jump for the first time all season to place third out of 30 competitors. Repp had previously jumped 4-feet, 10-inches twice this preseason.

“The highlight of the night was easily by Repp,” said Hunerdosse. “Her third-place finish was pretty impressive to me, and she also helped us out on the track.”

Repp missed the 60-meter hurdle finals by four spots with a 20th-place time of 10.53 seconds. The Trojan junior also was on the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, both of which ended up 14th.

Also in the sprints, Howard reached the finals of the 60-meter dash seeded seventh with a 8.12. She then improved upon her placing in the finals, taking fifth overall with an 8.11-second finish.

“She’s still got some block work to do, but she just hasn’t had the time or any place to do it yet,” Hunerdosse said of Howard. “I think when the time comes she’ll turn it on.”

Iowa City West’s McKennan Cronbaugh won the 60-dash in 7.71 seconds.

Jessica Lamb was 14th out of 77 runners in the 400-meter dash (1:04.44), and the senior ran a 2:24 split in the 10th-place 4x800 relay, which also featured freshman Abby Melcher, junior Sesali Martin and senior Hannah Sobaski.

“Both Sobaski and Martin ... broke 2:40 for the first time this season and Lamb hadn’t broken 2:30 this year, so we’re showing improvement,” Hunerdosse said.

“We’re seeing improvement that you generally see from meet to meet. With that said, we’re ready to get outside.”

Hunerdosse and the Trojans will get their wish with the first outdoor meet of the season March 28 in Mount Pleasant.
