Fairfield Habitat for Humanity announces 2014 housing project

Jun 27, 2014

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Fairfield Area is looking for a family to start the 2014 building project.

Families in need of simple and decent housing can contact the family selection by calling 233-8112 or emailing shanazr@earthlink.net for information and applications.

Applications also are available at www.fairfieldhabitat.org, The Lord’s Cupboard and Pre ReStore.

Applications must be mailed to: Habitat for Humanity, P O Box 334, Fairfield 52556 by July 15.

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner partner families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no interest, financed with affordable mortgages. Mortgage length varies from seven to 30 years. The house cost is kept low by using locally available materials and volunteer labor.

The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund that is used to build more houses.

Habitat for Humanity carries out its mission at the community level through organized groups called affiliates. Families in need of decent housing can apply to local Habitat affiliates. The affiliate’s family selection committee chooses homeowners based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay the no-interest loan. Every affiliate follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing homeowner families.

The Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Fairfield Area built its first house in 1997. Ten more houses have been built since then. In September, the Fairfield Habitat will begin its 11th building project.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian housing organization inviting people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to help build houses with families in need. Habitat has built more than 800,000 houses and served more than 4 million people around the world.

Fairfield residents can get involved with Habitat for Humanity by: contributing financially at PO Box 334, Fairfield 52556; offering leadership or expertise to help build, to serve on committees and to spread the word about Habitat for Humanity; and participating in Habitat fund-raising events.
