The Fairfield faithful came out in droves Friday to celebrate Senior Night, but junior Tristin Waugh was the brightest light once again in a 27-0 loss to Mt. Pleasant.

The Trojans actually ran 24 more plays and gained 62 more yards than the Panthers, including Waugh’s 36 carries for 189 yards rushing. The only difference is Mt. Pleasant ended four of their drives with touchdowns, while Fairfield failed to complete any of their own with points on the board.

Mt. Pleasant head coach Shawn Striegel warned his team that the focus needed to center on Waugh.

“We knew we were going to have to tackle him and tackle him well. I thought we had a great plan defensively,” he added. “He’s a great runner, and there were a few times where we were in the right position, and he alluded us.”

Fairfield was led defensively by junior Cole Engle and Waugh who each totaled seven tackles.

Fellow junior Noah Stone was second on the team with six stops, including one for a loss.

If you’re noticing a theme with one game remaining at No. 1 Solon, it’s that the Trojans maybe young, but they are gaining important experience during this tough 2-6 campaign that will hopefully propel coach Jones and his program forward for 2018.

Imagine the momentum the Trojans would have going into next season if they showed up to Solon in full force and pulled off the biggest upset of the year in Iowa high school football?

How about we find out?
