Hello Fairfield! My name is Justin Webster, and I’m the new Sports Editor here at The Ledger. My bosses have asked me to introduce myself to you, as we are hopefully going to be friends and neighbors for a long time.

I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids until my mom moved us to Marengo just prior to my starting kindergarten. I graduated from Iowa Valley in 2001 and started at Kirkwood as a communications media/public relations major.

I got married and moved to Vegas in 2005, before returning to school and graduating from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting’s Las Vegas campus in 2008. I was named “most enthusiastic,” an award I still proudly hang in my apartment.

I started my career at iHeart Radio Las Vegas, and spent four years doing anything and everything to learn as much of my craft as possible. It was a lot of fun, and I got to attend many incredible events and meet some of my childhood heroes in music and sports. In 2012, I took a position with KNIA/KRLS radio in Pella/Knoxville, selling advertising by day, and doing high school and college play-by-play at night for football, basketball, and baseball. In 2013, they promoted me to News Director shortly before my divorce, and in 2014 I moved back to Vegas, returning to iHeart Radio.

I spent a year producing Bobby Bones for the local market, and overseeing the audio integrity of their three stations before leaving the cluster again. I then split my time producing talk radio programs for Fox News in the morning, and covering high school, college and pro sports for ESPN Radio at night.

This past February, my uncle was killed in a motorcyle accident near Cedar Rapids, and I moved “home” to help my aunt with my 7 year old cousin. I coached first/second grade girl’s t-ball, and spent a few months reorganizing my life before applying for this position.

I’ve only been doing this job for three weeks, but I love it. I grew up playing sports against Pekin, Cardinal, and Van Buren, and I’m very fond of my new town of Fairfield. I’m a lifelong Cub/Hawk and also root for the Pacers, Flyers and of course the NHL’s new Vegas Golden Knights. Not only do I root for UNLV since I lived there and covered them for a decade, but my college team besides the Hawkeyes is Syracuse.

My favorite activities are karaoke, putt-putt golf, playing PS4 and going to concerts and sporting events. I’ve easily seen 600 plus shows and concerts working in radio and living in Vegas for most of the last 12 years, and love that acts like John Popper come to Jefferson County.

I can’t wait to meet many of you and discuss our common loves, just remember if I forget your name, that there is only one of me, while I have 10,000 new castmates to meet. For those who don’t know, you can contact me anytime at Sports@FFLedger.com.
