The third game of the Pekin jamboree Tuesday was highly anticipated for many of the Fairfield Trojans, as you could see the excitement exude from them before they even left the tunnel while watching Sigourney finish off Moravia 38-9 in game two.

Fairfield fell behind 2-0 for a few minutes before running away with the first quarter on a 21-4 scoring binge against Davis County.

“We really just needed to get comfortable,” said coach Brian Witzenburg after the game. “After a ball took a weird bounce and had us out of position, we were able to recover and put the hammer down. I really enjoyed watching us run the floor today. We got rebounds to the outlets and just ran. That’s going to be the name of our game. We’re also going to drive and kick and hit the three and feed the post. I mean, I really liked what I saw tonight.”

Nicole Buch couldn’t stop smiling while leading the team in scoring with 23 points.

Ashtyn Drish also scored in double digits with 11, while Malory Jones just missed that mark with nine.

Ashley Bloomquist knocked down two threes for six points while Shay Drish had five points and Kara Jeffrey had three rebounds.

The second quarter went Fairfield’s way 33-11, giving the Trojans a 54-17 victory.
