By Justin Webster | Oct 10, 2017

OSKALOOSA - The Fairfield volleyball team finished 2-2 Saturday in Oskaloosa, going 2-1 in pool play.

The girls were swept in their first match 14-21 and 19-21 against North Polk. The Trojans then followed that loss with back-to-back sweeps of Osky and Chariton. First they beat the Indians 21-15 and 21-10, followed by wins of 21-17 and 21-8 over the Chargers. The final match gave Fairfield a chance to stop Gilbert, and their eight-match winning streak. Unfortunately, the Tigers kept their winning ways alive with a 25-16, 25-15 sweep of the Trojans. Gilbert then lost to Marshalltown in the championship, with Fairfield finishing third.

Kara Jeffrey was 38-40 serving on the day with six aces, while Ashtyn, Danae and Shaylin Drish were all perfect, going a combined 57-57 while serving. Ashtyn led the team with 40 assists, while Danae and Shaylin were 1-2 in digs with 45 and 24, respectively.

Coach Diana Drish was excited by her entire team’s play over the weekend.

“We had a great day of volleyball,” bragged Coach Drish. “The team worked hard all day, and it’s good exposure to play these high-caliber teams.”

Fairfield is now 19-8 overall, with its next match Thursday at Washington for the Demons’ Senior Night. Saturday, the Trojans will host Centerville in their regular season finale.
