The Trojan volleyball team squeaked by the Mt. Pleasant Panthers in their first two games Thursday night, then pulled out all the stops for a convincing win in Game 3 to complete the sweep.

The Panthers gave the Trojans a good battle in the first two games, a pair of back-and-forth affairs.

Fairfield came out the victor both times, by scores of 25-22 and 25-22. The third game was not the same, as the Trojans turned on the jets for a 25-11 win.

Jillian Dunlap went 13-14 in serves with three aces. Grace Stever was 16-16 with an ace. Kara Jeffrey went 10-11 with one ace, too. Jeffrey led the way on offense, hitting safely 23 of 26 times to go with 10 kills. She had plenty of help, too. Alison Godwin was 15-15 in hitting with seven kills. Stever went 13-16 with four kills, and Julia Fritz was 9-10 with three kills.

Jeffrey was also the leader in assists with 10. Ashtyn Drish had eight, Olivia Roberts three, and Danae Drish two.

Danae Drish did a superb job saving balls from hitting the floor. She amassed 18 digs to lead the team. She was followed by Jeffrey with 12 digs, and Dunlap with eight.

Godwin was the leader in blocks with three. Alie Kensett had two, and Fritz, Ashtyn Drish and Jeffrey each added one.

On serve-receiver, Danae Drish was a perfect 13-13. Dunlap was 6-10.

“The girls played well. They showed grit, determination and confidence to get themselves back on top when they were down,” said Trojan head coach Diana Drish. “Mt. Pleasant plays a good defensive game and kept balls alive.”

The Trojans improve their match record to 4-1. Their next contest is on the road Tuesday in Fort Madison.
