Farm bureau to celebrate 100 years Saturday

Jul 19, 2017

Jefferson County Farm Bureau will host a free event this weekend with food and activities to celebrate the organization’s 100th birthday.

The event begins at 5 p.m. Saturday at Maasdam Barns and includes a free meal, live horse-drawn demonstrations, wagon rides, kids’ games with a bounce house, a century of Farm Bureau picture display, prizes and more. The evening will conclude with a live concert from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Residents do not have to be members of the Farm Bureau to participate. The Farm Bureau encourages people to bring a lawn chair for the concert. Parking will be at the Jefferson County Health Center with shuttle service from the parking lot to the main barn.

A press release from the organization states, “In 1917, a group of farmers from across Jefferson County came together to create an organization that would work to be a voice for Jefferson County agriculture and our local communities and farmers. That organization they built is known as the Jefferson County Farm Bureau.”
