Farm Bureaus to hold candidate forum Thursday

Aug 01, 2017

Van Buren and Jefferson County Farm Bureaus are hosting a forum featuring the candidates running for the Iowa House District 82 seat.

The forum will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts Memorial Building in Keosauqua. It is free and open to the public.

The event will not be a debate but rather an opportunity for each candidate to give their position on rural issues. Questions from the crowd will be accepted in writing with approved questions read to the candidates by a moderator. Questions considered one-sided or threatening will not be used.

“The Van Buren and Jefferson County Farm Bureaus understand that this is a busy time of year, but hope farmers will be able to take the time to learn more about the candidates for the special election on Aug. 8,” stated a press release.

The candidates running for the District 82 seat are Democrat Phil Miller, Republican Travis Harris, Libertarian Joshua Miller and Edward T. Hee III of the Constitution Party.

Iowa Rep. Curt Hanson, who formerly represented District 82, died June 16.
