By Hannah Clubb, Fairfield FFA reporter | Mar 27, 2018
PHOTO SUBMITTED Fairfield FFA and 4-H members who packed meals for Take Away Hunger were, from left, front row: Sophia Mineart, Jacob Scotton, Derek Beasley, Blu Schultz, Hollie Nelson, Tristen Garretson; back: Josh Mineart, Kaitlyn Post, Jenna Wickenkamp, Kyle Godwin, Tyler Heston, Dillan Post, Jackson Nelson, Adrian Scotton, Emma Clubb, Hannah Clubb, Hannah Peck and Hailey Burke. Other members, who had helped earlier, were not present during the group photo.

The Fairfield FFA Chapter joined with local 4-H’ers to host a meal-packaging event March 8 in the Fairfield High School Commons.

A committee of FFA members spent a few months planning the event. They used some of their own funds and also received a donation from Clint and Char Coon of Waukee to go toward purchasing the supplies for the event.

In total, the Fairfield FFA, 4-H members and parent volunteers packaged 5,616 meals which will be sent to those affected by the hurricanes in Florida and Texas.

Take Away Hunger is an organization in Mt. Pleasant, that works with local groups to package meals to help fight hunger locally, within the United States, and overseas.

This was the first time the Fairfield FFA Chapter has participated in the effort, and plan to do it again next year.
