Fairfield High School has announced its Students of the Month for April: freshman Grace Connor, sophomore Miles Gerleman, junior Marsha Vazquez and senior Gunnar Mattson.

Grace Connor is the daughter of Judd and Marte Connor. She was nominated by Katelyn Weaver, who said, “I would want Grace to know that she is just awesome, and has a one of a kind personality. I can’t wait to see where she ends up in life, but I know she is going somewhere good.”

Miles Gerleman is the son of Phillip Gerleman and Keli Young. He was nominated by Keeli Rubey, who said, “I nominated Miles Gerleman for sophomore FHS Student of the Month. This nomination comes from his activities outside of school and how he relates to people. Miles Gerleman is generous, kind, patient, knowledgeable, and works so well with the younger 4-H members. Quite a few of the younger members look to Miles for guidance and he willing stops what he is doing to help and explain how to tackle the process. Working with animals can be really frustrating and difficult but Miles has patience and confidence in what he is doing that he finds his way to success.”

Marsha Vazquez’s guardians are James and Nancy Sieber. She was nominated by Sharon Flinspach, who said, “Marsha is doing a great job programming in Visual Basic and is going beyond what is required of her.”

Gunnar Mattson is the son of Craig and Rebecca Mattson. He was nominated by Betsie Wotherspoon, who said, “I want Gunnar to know that there are many who appreciate his solid dependability, selfless actions, and helpful attitude. I have appreciated his support and assistance so much in the last two years especially.”

Each month, FHS faculty nominates one student from each class to receive Student of the Month recognition.

The Student of the Month program is meant to promote success in and out of the classroom. It is designed to nominate and select students who promote and take pride in FHS, in themselves, and in others.

Students have their pictures displayed in the front foyer of the high school, plus receive a gift from Hy-Vee, and a certificate.

Hy-Vee will host a breakfast at the end of the year for Students of the Month and their immediate family members. During the breakfast, a Student of the Year will be announced.
