First Fridays celebrating ‘Blues & BBQ’

Aug 01, 2018

“Blues & BBQ” is the theme for Fairfield First Fridays from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday on and near the Fairfield square.

Van & the Movers will be providing live music in Central Park. The group has been delivering traditional, classic, danceable blues throughout Iowa for more than 20 years.

A quadrant of Central Park will be set up with lawn games, like beanbag toss, Connect Four and more, for competition.

Vendors with food, art and more will be in Central Park, plus many galleries, shops, restaurants and venues will be open on and near the square.

The prairie-style James F. Clarke House, 500 S. Main St., will open for tours from 5-7 p.m. Based on the working drawings of architect Francis Barry Byrne, the house was built for Dr. James Frederic Clarke, a Fairfield physician, between 1915-1916. Byrne had been trained in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Oak Park office, but the Clarke house goes beyond the Wright influence and carries Byrne’s signature style.

The story of the home’s origin has it that Mrs. Clarke wanted a Colonial Revival style home, but Dr. Clarke convinced her that it would be more affordable to go with this new design.

Anyone who would like vendor space for any of the upcoming Fairfield First Fridays, or would like to volunteer for an event, should contact call Marla Brader at 233-8883 or email fairfieldartwalk@gmail.com. Visit the website www.fairfieldfirstfridays.org for information.
