First Fridays, Relay for Life partner for May event

Fairfield First Fridays’s May event will be 6-9:30 p.m. on and near the Fairfield square.

The focus will be on art and the art venues and is all about wandering through the galleries and stores on the square enjoying all of the works of art on display.

Start the evening by picking up a passport at any of the participating art venues. Visit the locations on the passport and each venue will stamp the passport with a unique stamp or stickers assigned to them.

Passport locations are; Revelations, Art Fiftytwo, Crest Jewel, Americus Diamond, Moreheart Studios, Fairfield Art Association, Hendersons and Icon.

Return the completed passport to ICON Gallery, to be entered into a drawing being held at 9:30 p.m. at ICON. Two winners will be drawn and able to choose a work of art valued at $300. The art offered by local artists Wendy Stegall, Bill Teeple, John Preston, Greg Thatcher, Jessica Kirby, Danielle Shier, David Kupferman, Terrence Kennedy, Cindy Ballou, Irene Murphy, Elaine Duncan, David Rose, Kartika Damon and others will be on view all evening at ICON.

In addition to having the drawing for two pieces of art, there will also be gift cards from various local businesses drawn for and given away.

The winners do not need to be present.

Jefferson County Relay for Life will be holding its event in Central Park from 5-10 p.m. Friday. The relay will include a live auction, DJ and entertainment, kids games, painting for a cure, and more.

Carnegie Historical Museum- Stop in to see the many different collections.  Check out more of the newly acquired Edward S. Curtis photo collection.  Open 6-9pm.

Crest Jewel- . From Our Fairfield Based Artists: David Kupferman’s new acrylic paintings, Terrence Kennedy’s new Photo Paintings, Wendog’s new one of a kind yoga pants and vests. Metalsmith, Margaret Zacny’s custom design engagement rings and fine hand crafted jewelry.  Plus, The most exquisite examples of Natures Art: Unique gemstone specimens, Faceted gems, and finest gemstone beads from Janu Gems wholesale, here for 3 days starting May 4. Fairfield Art Association -"Recent Permanent Collection Acquisitions" including works by Tamarind Institute Artists: Emerson Woelffer, Nicholas Krushenick and Clinton Adams in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center Main Gallery. Open 6-8pm Passport Location

Henderson’s- Open 6:30-9:00 for the Fairfield First Fridays.  On Display“ Upon Further Review. No. 2. “- oils on paper and photographs. Passport Location

ICON Gallery- First Friday Hours: 6:30 to 10:00pm Artists on display in the Main Gallery include Brad Covington, director of Anomaly Gallery in Ottumwa; Ann Klingensmith, professor of art at Iowa Wesleyan in Mt. Pleasant; Matt and Sarah Kargol of the Oskaloosa Art Center; Mark McWhorter, Art Department head at Indian Hills; Mike Rutherford.  Mezzanine- Bill Hurlin’s jewelry made from ancient artifacts, drawings by Elaine Duncan and video slideshow of Katharine Hannah’s photographs.  Passport Location- Drop off for drawing before 9:30.

Moreheart Studios- Check out the whimsical, enchanting work of Paul Morehead and JacQueline Kumer.  Their work often involves esoteric knowledge, archetypes and the relationship of humans and nature. Open from 6 to 9pm. Passport Location

Revelations- Open until 9pm.  Specials during Fairfield First Fridays on the following artists: Peter Clemens: Yantras, Everett Day: Art Work, Freddy Fonseca: Photographs, John Schrimer: Paintings. Music by Hannelore Stimson, Cello and Piano, 6:30-8:30pm.  Passport Location
