Knights of Columbus fish fry set at SS. Joseph & Cabrini

EAST PLEASANT PLAIN — The Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry will be 5-7 p.m. March 16 at SS. Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain.

The menu will include catfish or shrimp or grilled cheese sandwich, baked potato, vegetable, cornbread, dessert and drink.

Proceeds will be used to fund school scholarships.


Information technology classes offered by Batavia church

BATAVIA — Batavia United Methodist Church is offering free lessons on safely using smartphones, laptops, tables and other devices beginning Wednesday.

Classes will be held from 6:30-7:15 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.

Word of Life holding midweek soup supper, Lenten service

Word of Life Lutheran Church is inviting everyone to attend its midweek Lenten services at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays as it explores the question of Jesus’s identity from the perspective of those who encountered him.

Wednesday, those attending will hear the conversation between Pontius Pilate and Judas.

A Lenten meal will be served by the church council at 5:30 p.m. before the service.


Lenten series continuing at Hope Lutheran Church

BRIGHTON — Hope Lutheran Church is holding a Lenten series on “The Easter Experience” at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday through March 28.

Grand View Choir performing in concert at Fairfield church

Grand View University Choir from Des Moines will be stopping in Fairfield as part of its spring tour.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. March 17 at First Lutheran Church.

The choir also will be participating in the church’s worship service at 9 a.m. March 18.

Fairfield native Claudia Sloat will be performing with the choir.

Everyone is welcome to attend the concert and the worship service.

The Grand View Choir performs for major university events including Julefest, honors convocation, and baccalaureate. It tours each year during spring break. In recent years, it has toured to Colorado, Ohio, Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Minnesota, Wisconsin, Canada, Denmark, Germany, California, Oregon and Washington. It made its first overseas tour in 2005 and returned to Europe to tour in 2009, 2013 and 2017.
