Mar 13, 2013

PACKWOOD — Pekin head wrestling coach Al Chapman doled out awards to five athletes at the team’s end-of-season banquet Monday.

State qualifying senior Austyn Vogel was given both the Outstanding Wrestling Award and Bill Rex Award, which annually goes to the wrestler who shows outstanding leadership and dedication to the sport. Freshman Michael Hadley also took home two plaques, including the Most Enjoyable Award and Most Improved Underclassman.

Rookie of the Year went to 106-pound freshman Clayton McKim, and the Most Improved Upperclassman was 195-pound junior Trenton Conger. Senior Thomas Slaney took home the Iron Man Award, which goes to any wrestler who doesn’t miss a practice, for the third straight season.

The Panthers ended the year with an 8-8 record in duals.
