Flood-damaged bridge collapses in northwest Iowa

Jun 20, 2013

REMSEN (AP) — An estimated $50,000 repair bill has jumped with the fall of a flood-damaged bridge into a creek in northwest Iowa.

High water in Willow Creek from Memorial Day flooding had damaged connections to the banks on both sides of the bridge. The span carries 110th Street traffic about six miles north of Remsen.

Last week the bridge collapsed into the water.

County engineer Tom Rohe told the county supervisors on Tuesday that the damaged bridge already was a likely candidate for federal relief dollars to repair it. The replacement cost has been estimated at $400,000.

Local residents have been using a three-mile detour around the collapsed bridge.
