Twenty-two Fairfield Middle School band students attended the 22nd annual Mt. Pleasant Honor Band April 7, including eight sixth-grade band students and 14 seventh-and eight-grade band students. They rehearsed throughout the day, enjoyed a brief dance party after lunch, and performed an evening concert, along with their teachers who played in the “Fossil” jazz band. The Sixth Grade Honor Band, conducted by Dorothy Jacobi of Center Point-Urbana Schools, performed four pieces: “Dancin’ On the Bayou” by Ralph Ford; “Promise of Tomorrow” by Paul Clark; “Hunter’s Mountain” by Rob Grice; and “The Forbidden City” arranged by Michael Story. The seventh- and eighth-grade combined honor band also performed four pieces, and was conducted by Jane Triplett, band director at Northwest Junior High of Iowa City. Their program literature was: “In Quiet Times” by James Swearingen; “Groovee” by Richard Saucedo; “Hosts of Freedom” by Karl L. King, arranged by Andrew Glover; and “New Era Fanfare” by Randall Standridge.
