The Trojan volleyball team celebrated its four seniors Tuesday night, but unfortunately, Fort Madison left Fairfield with a 3-0 SEC victory.

Although they were unable to win a game, Coach Diana Drish saw positives in the rematch with the Bloodhounds.

“Our girls did play hard. They got swept in three to a very good Fort Madison team, but our girls fought,” Drish added. “There were a lot of long volleys that could have gone either way. We dug up a lot of balls, we blocked a lot of balls, we put down a lot of balls. We have improved so much from the first time we played them earlier in the season, so improvement was definitely by far one of the best things I’m proud about tonight and their effort.”

As for the seniors themselves, Ashtyn Drish, Aliegha Kensett, Kristen Daugherty and Camille Schaefer, Coach Drish knows the small group is special.

“Those are four great seniors that have been with us for four years and with the middle school program before that, she said. “They’re going to be greatly missed. They have a lot of great leadership, one of the best leadership squads I’ve seen in a long, long time. I’m very proud of them and I’m going to miss all four of them.”

Scores for the three sets were: 13-25, 19-25 and 18-25. Top servers included Grace Stever who was 8-9 with an ace, and Ashtyn Drish and Danae Drish who were 10-10 and 9-9, respectively. The kill queen was Kara Jeffrey with 10 while Ashtyn Drish had 10 assists. Three Trojans recorded double digit digs. Those ladies were D. Drish with 20, Bryanna Popejoy with 14 and Jeffrey who had 11, while Alison Godwin was the top blocker with four.
