Free Family Caregiver Conference set Nov. 5

OTTUMWA — Family and friends who care for relatives and friends are invited to talk with exhibitors and hear speakers at the Family Caregiver Conference 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Indian Hills Community College’s Rural Health Education Center in Ottumwa.

There is no charge to attend the conference, but reservations are requested by Oct. 21.

Keynote speakers will present at 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectfully. James Cushing, executive director of the Iowa Association of the Area Agencies on Aging, will present information resources and define new developments for Iowa caregivers. Jill and Dan Johnson, certified Laughter Yoga leaders, will keep everyone engaged with “Laughter for the Health of It” designed especially for people taking care of people.

Caregivers will learn about services and programs as they visit information tables of providers and organizations who serve the area. Light refreshments, spa time and door prizes are planned.

New this year for health professionals is the opportunity to receive Continuing Education Hours for a cost of $20 and preregistration.

The event is sponsored by Milestones Area Agency on Aging with the space provided by Indian Hills Community College.
