Free film Friday at library

Aug 08, 2017

The Fairfield Public Library will present another free film Friday.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the film begins at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited.

The movie is a 2016 film based on an adaptation of the novel by the same name by Tim Crothers, which is a biography of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan girl who rose from a poverty-stricken community to become a world chess champion. Living in the slum of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda, is a constant struggle for 10-year-old Phiona and her family. Her world changes one day when she meets Robert Katende, a missionary who teaches children how to play chess. Phiona becomes fascinated with the game and soon becomes a top player under Katende’s guidance. Her success in local competitions and tournaments opens the door to a bright future and a golden chance to escape from a life of poverty.

The movie is rated PG for thematic elements, an accident scene and some suggestive material. It runs two hours.

Donations for the free film and organic popcorn help the library to renew its movie licenses.
