Free marketing plan workshopfor farmers set at Honey Creek

Nov 14, 2017

MORAVIA — A “Winning the Game — Launch and Land Your Post-Harvest Marketing Plan” workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at Honey Creek Resort near Moravia.

Winning the Game is a free session packed with practical advice to help farmers write and execute a post-harvest marketing plan by teaching them to use market signals that help in making marketing decisions after harvest.

Topics covered include: writing your own post-harvest marketing plan; post-harvest exit strategies; what is a “carry” and why it is important; practicing exit strategies and tools in a marketing simulation; and more.

A lot of grain for 2017 and 2016 still is unpriced. The workshop walks a farmer through developing a marketing plan and, more importantly, implementing the plan. Carrying charges, storage costs, use of hedges and options and grain contracts are all discussed. An actual marketing year is used to demonstrate how the marketing plan works.

Winning the Game is provided as a joint effort of the Iowa Farm Bureau and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

To preregister for the free workshop, go to http://tinyurl.com/wtg1718 or call Appanoose County Farm Bureau at 641-437-4333.
