Free pond management workshop set

Sep 28, 2016

Jefferson County Conservation is offering a free pond management class at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson County Park Nature Center.

Chad Dolan, an Iowa Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist from Lake Darling State Park near Brighton, will present information and answer participants’s questions.

Topics could include: “Is that algae on my pond or duck weed? Is it harmful to the pond? What’s the difference between green algae and blue-green algae? Should I get grass carp to control weeds? Do I need to control the weeds or can I leave it as is? Should I worry about snapping turtles and muskrat if I want a good fish population?”

No registration is required.

For information, call the nature center at 472-4421.
