Free weatherization materials at workshop

Nov 06, 2012

Alliant Energy’s Hometown Rewards program in Fairfield is offering a free workshop on geothermal and giving away home weatherization kits at the 2nd Saturday workshop from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Fairfield Public Library.

Accredited heat pump installer Mark Stimson and Fairfield’s sustainability coordinator Scott Timm will be talking about geothermal heating and cooling, as well as home weatherization.

Stimson will talk about how geothermal heating and cooling systems can be used to provide wintertime warmth and summertime cooling, while saving 40 percent or more on monthly energy bills.

Timm will go over the basics of home weatherization. Free home weatherization kits will be available to everyone at the workshop.

The 2nd Saturdays workshops are a partnership between the city of Fairfield, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Alliant Energy and the Fairfield Public Library and will provide practical information about how residents of Fairfield can change their behaviors to save energy and money, conserve resources and reduce their carbon footprint. If the community meets the goals of the program, Alliant Energy will help fund the installation of solar panels on the Fairfield Public Library.

The workshop is free and open to the public.
