Fundraiser set for Ballew baby

May 18, 2017

A fundraising event is planned Saturday to help 7-month-old Carter Ballew and his family.

Carter, the son of Eric and Hayley Ballew, was born with a complete AV canal defect. He has two holes in his heart, one between each of the upper and lower chambers. He will need open heart surgery, which has resulted in lengthy hospital stays and ever-growing hospital bills.

The baby’s parents grew up locally: Eric Ballew in Fairfield, where he graduated from Fairfield High School, and Hayley Ballew near Agency, a graduate of Cardinal High School. The couple and their two children now live in Marion.

The fundraiser will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday at LaSalle Middle School in Cedar Rapids.

A silent auction for items, such as Cardinal tickets, Cub tickets, a Nile Kinnick rookie card, hunting gear, jewelry, clothing and more is planned. A bags tournament, raffle, bounce house, cake walk, carnival games, face panting, free food and drink also are planned.

For information on making a donation to the Ballew family or the benefit, email info@carterballew.com.
