Girl Scouts, leaders recognized

PHOTO SUBMITTED Several Girl Scouts were recognized for selling 500 or more boxes of cookies.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois Jefferson County Service Unit celebrated its end of the year banquet May 20 and recognized several girls and leaders.

Tammy Hamilton, the Fairfield Service Unit product sales manager, reported on the group’s fall sales and cookie sales program.

“We had a decrease in fall sales this past year,” said Hamilton. “A total of 1,563 products were sold compared to 1,789 products the previous year.”

The top selling troops in the fall sales event were: Troop 9408 — 395 products sold; Troop 1066 — 304 products sold; and Troop 2288 — 238 products sold.

The top selling girls in the falls sales event were: Dorotea Orgovanyi — 108 items sold; and Lana White — 100 items sold.

“We had a decrease in cookie sales this year as well,” said Hamilton. “A total of 20,057 boxes of cookies were sold; last year the total was 20,744. Thin Mints were again the top selling cookie in the area with a total of 5,347 boxes, followed by Samoas at 4,113 boxes.”

The total sales added up to $82,554, of which $11,845 went to the troops and $70,709 went to the Girl Scout Council.

The top selling troops in the cookie sales event were: Troop 9408 — 6,181 boxes; Troop 2288 — 2,830 boxes; and Troop 2564 — 2,718 boxes.

Girls selling 500+ boxes were: Troop 9408 member Dorotea Orgovanyi, 1,000 boxes; Troop 2288 member Addison Jones, 862 boxes; Troop 9408 member Lana White, 725 boxes; Troop 9663 member Gabriella Titus, 637 boxes; Troop 9408 member Alexis Megrath, 625 boxes; Troop 9408 member Merrick Flanagan, 622 boxes; Troop 9408 member Caroline Van Pelt, 606 boxes; Troop 9408 member Laney Bowers, 600 boxes; Troop 2288 member Kinzley Dunkin, 573 boxes; Troop 9408 member Lena Nelson, 508 boxes; Troop 2564 member Savannah Garretson, 503 boxes; and Troop 9408 member Emily White, 500 boxes.

Also during the end of the year banquet, graduating Senior Girl Scouts Cecilia Faircrest and Kristen Daugherty were recognized.

Daugherty also was presented the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

Joe and Nicole Garretson were recognized as caretakers of the local Girl Scout Cabin in Old Settlers Park.

Five-year Volunteer Membership Pins were presented to Chasity Dunkin and Laura Sage.

Volunteer Appreciation Pins were presented to Sandy Davisson and Jean Dorothy.
