Girls golf ends season at districts

The Fairfield girls golf team competed in the Class 3A region-5 district meet at Emeis Park Golf Course in Davenport Monday, finishing ninth with a team total of 465, 31 strokes ahead of the Marion girls.

Southeast Conference juggernaut Washington qualified for state 55 strokes ahead of fellow qualifier Maquoketa whose 396 as a team was 16 strokes ahead of third place Central DeWitt. Davenport Assumption and Center Point-Urbana rounded out the top-five while West Liberty, Mt. Pleasant and Solon finished six-seven-eight.

The Demons also claimed half of the eight individual-qualifier spots led by Sarah and Anna Nacos’ 77 and 80, respectively. Kiki Guo shot an 88 for fifth and Megan Strabala had a 96 for eighth.

“It’s always hard to say goodbye to your seniors,” said Head Coach Joe Kruzich who added.

“Joli and Kaelyn were awesome to be around since their first practice and I’m going to miss them immensely.”
