Girls Scout cookie booth sales start

Feb 27, 2018

Girl Scouts in Fairfield and throughout eastern Iowa and western Illinois have started their cookie booth sales at local retailers and community events.

Customers searching for cookies can visit www.GirlScoutCookies.org or use the official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app to search where girls will be selling cookies through the end of the sale on March 18.

Girl Scouts aren’t just selling delicious cookies but also building life skills, such as goal setting, people skills, and business ethics — all essential to 21st century leadership. The Cookie Sale Program helps the next generation of entrepreneurs get an important taste of what it takes to be successful — teamwork, planning, and a positive outlook. The more than century-long program is the largest financial literacy program for Girl Scouts and many alumnae say that their experience selling Girl Scout Cookies was a critical first step on a path to success in their life and career. As the largest entrepreneurial program for girls in the world, the Girl Scout Cookie Program is powering the next century of girl leaders toward an amazing future.

Making a purchase of Girl Scout Cookies is making an important investment in the community, by supporting fun and formative leadership experiences for girls. All proceeds from the Cookie Sale Program stay local, ensuring quality programming for girls and support for volunteers. From offering financial assistance to girls in underserved areas to building a premier summer camp, the Cookie Sale Program has brought many positive initiatives to area communities. The Cookie Sale Program also provides troops the opportunity to raise funds and fuel the opportunities they have planned for the year

During the 2018 Cookie Sale, Girl Scouts will be collecting donated cookies to give to the military. Customers can make $4 donations that represent a box of cookies that will be given to Soldier’s Angels and Riverbend Troop Support, organizations that send care packages to the men and women in the military. In 2018, Girl Scouts have set a goal of collecting 2,018 cases of cookies to donate. Currently, local Girl Scouts are about halfway to their goal.

The very popular S’mores cookie was unveiled in the 2017 sale and will be available for purchase again in 2018. Last season, these crunchy graham sandwich cookies with a creamy chocolate and marshmallow filling sold out, so it is recommended that customers stock up.

Traditional flavors are $4 per box and the S’mores cookies and gluten free Toffee-tastic cookies are $5 per box.
