The Greater Jefferson County Foundation held its 43rd annual meeting May 2 in the Jefferson County Iowa State University Extension office meeting room.

The existing board of directors thanked President Tim B. Kuiken and Treasurer Nancy Horras for their service to the foundation. Both have served two three-year terms on the board and seen many great things happen with the foundation funding and growth over those past six years.

There was an election of new officers for the coming year. Elected were: Tami Kramer, president; Kara Waugh, vice president; Tammy Dunbar, secretary; and Arvin Bogaards, treasurer.

The report of the finance committee revealed a growth of 8.3 percent in the assets of the foundation.

The report for fiscal year 2017 included the following:

• Total grants disbursed to the community $157,359. Traditionally the grants are divided 60 percent for capital expenses and 40 percent for operational expenses.

• A total of 34 scholarships in the amount of $49,499 from the general scholarship fund and six scholarships from the Ralph Perry Trust in the amount of $30,000.

The foundation will be hosting a scholarship picnic at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson County Park. This is an annual picnic to honor those scholarship winners from Fairfield High School and to provide an opportunity to meet some of the scholarship donors. The Jefferson County Pork Producers will be providing the meal.

The Greater Jefferson County Foundation receives, accepts and distributes funds for educational, cultural, civic and charitable purposes for the benefit of the greater community of Jefferson County.
