Green Fair Saturday at convention center

By Andy Hallman, Ledger news editor | May 19, 2017

The sixth annual Green Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The fair will feature local craft businesses, children’s crafts with a story corner, food and live music.

Something new this year is a market crawl with prizes. Participants start by getting a “passport” at the green fair, in which they collect stamps by making purchases at participating vendors in expo hall, at the farmers’ market outside and around the square.

Participants will be entered in a drawing to receive prizes, the winner of which will be announced at 1 p.m.

Stacy Maurer, one of the organizers of the event, said she is pleased to collaborate with different groups in the community to encourage people to shop locally.

Afton Hallauer and Jessi Garchik will be on site to offer the kids’ activities such as crafts and reading books to them.

Other events throughout the day are:

1:30-3:30 p.m. – Southeast Iowa Sierra Club Leopold Group hosts a lobbying workshop at Fairfield Public Library.

2-3 p.m. – EcoVillagers host a tour of their off-grid sustainable community at Abundance Eco Village.

3-4 p.m. – Green Iowa Americorps hosts a tour of Maharishi University of Management's Sustainable Living Center, followed by a film from 4-5 p.m.
