A local group planning the “World Fair-Field Festival” in Fairfield has received a $10,000 grant for the event.

The event will last two days beginning Sept. 21, which coincides with the International Day of Peace. One of the event’s organizers, Kaye Jacob, said the grant came from Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

“This is a pretty big deal actually, and I was a bit surprised,” she said.

On the first day of the event, participants will hear from keynote speaker Robertson Work, professor of innovative leadership at New York University, at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The event will include a panel discussion on applying the United Nations Sustainable Development principles to the community. It will also feature booths from local businesses and civic organizations who wish to create a sustainable community.

The following day, Sept. 22, will feature a festival in Central Park. The park will be divided into different parts of the world, so participants can go from one corner of the park to the next, sampling a different country’s food, music and games. The event will also include a parade of nations.
