Haines ends Trojan boys golf career at districts

By Justin Webster | May 18, 2018

Aaron Haines was the lone senior on the Trojans team this year and he was also the lone boys golfer able to grind his way past the sectional round at Flint Hills in Burlington last week and qualify for Thursday’s district meet at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa.

Haines shot a 44 on the front nine and a 46 on the back half of the course to total 90 on the day.

“Aaron’s putter really saved him several times from big numbers,” said the soon-to-be graduates Head Coach Mick Flattery who added, “He just kept getting better as the season went on and I’m very proud of him.”

Teams advancing to State are Grinnell who shot a 310, Oskaloosa who had a 314 and fellow Southeast Conference foe Washington who finished third with 319.

Individuals advancing are Luca Scherf from Grinnell who posted the low round of 69 and Ben Galeeza of Pella who shot 77.
