Have faith in humanity

By Jim Turner | Aug 31, 2017

To the editor:

The recent events in Charlottesville and other cities in the U.S. have created an environment of hostility, condemnation and bitter personal attacks among some of our fellow citizens.

There is always a risk in our becoming more like the people we oppose in opposing them than we would like.

I am all for the healthy debate and the moral courage it takes to stand for your principles. I am not for attacking one another in a personal way. In a way, that denies our common humanity. Hatred is toxic and it seems to spread all the more when we write about it and talk about it too much.

We still have a Consitution. It works. The change will come. Too slowly, perhaps, but it will come.

Let’s all have faith in the essential goodness of our country and in our friends and neighbors.
