Health center auxiliary plans appreciation brunch

Mar 28, 2017

The Jefferson County Health Center Auxiliary Board will host its annual Spring Appreciation Brunch and membership drive from 9:30-10:45 a.m. April 7 in the First United Methodist Church dining room.

Following brunch, the officers for 2017 will be initiated, and the entertainment will include singing and piano music.

Auxiliary members and those interested in becoming members are invited to attend.

Reservations must be called in before Monday to Linda Zelinski at 641-451-6080 or Susan Muntz at 472-4960.

The mission of the Jefferson County Health Center Auxiliary is to support the needs of the hospital, the comfort of the patients and their families, and to give scholarships to individuals pursuing a health-related career.

The auxiliary board president Jean Keller, said the auxiliary tries to be of service when the health center calls on it for support.

“When they have a need for something, we just try to step in and do it,” she said.

Keller said the board is able to help through the support of donations, memorials and the operation of its Gift Shop in the health center and The Bargain Box thrift store in downtown Fairfield.

Within the last year, the auxiliary helped the health center purchase several Spirit Select beds for its medical-surgical unit.

The new beds are aimed at helping caregivers perform their jobs better, while simultaneously boosting patient safety and level of care.

Prior to that purchase, the auxiliary purchased equipment for the health center’s physical therapy department

Jefferson County Health Center Auxiliary members also are active in many different projects throughout the year. For example, the group awards 12 scholarships to recent and nonrecent students who are enrolled in studies pursuing a health-related career.

The group also sews and presents a quilt to the first baby born to Jefferson County parents each year, holds a free Super Sitter baby-sitting course for fifth-graders in Jefferson County, mans the information desk at the health center, staffs the library/book cart and much more.

For information about the Jefferson County Health Care Center Auxiliary, attend the brunch, visit the Gift Shop or The Bargain Box or call Zelinski, Muntz or Kathy Horn at 919-9440.
