Ide Gymnastics of Fairfield attended the USTA Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin, June 20-24, with the theme of “We are Family”.

Ide Gymnastics took 27 athletes. At the national competition, the athletes are divided into age groups and skill levels, and the competitors are then placed into flights of no more than 10 each. The scores are then compiled and posted according to their placement against all other competitors in the same age and skill level, and some of these levels total 70 or more girls or boys.

The overall Top 10 scoring performers receive a trophy.

Seventeen athletes brought home 24 of the Top 10 placements. Sophia Murphy brought home three trophies. She took fifth place in Power Tumbling in the Novice level, seventh in Double Mini Trampoline in the Intermediate level and eighth in Trampoline in the sub-advanced level all in the 15 and over age group.

Five athletes came home with two trophies a piece. Shay Smith earned third place in Power Tumbling and ninth in Double Mini. Andrew Twohill received seventh in Trampoline and ninth in Power Tumbling. Kya Goodrich earned eighth in Trampoline and ninth in Double Mini.

Kayse Miller had a sixth-place trophy in Double Mini and a 10th in Power Tumbling. Maya Lane got eighth in Trampoline Prelims and Finals (which means she had to perform twice) and 10th in the Double Mini Prelims and Finals.

A number of the athletes also made it in the Top 10 including: Chaz Wohnoutka with a third-place trophy in Double Mini, Hailey Reinier a fourth in Trampoline, Iris Lane a fifth in Trampoline, Ophelia Greenfield a sixth in Trampoline, Alejandra Carminhato a seventh in Trampoline, Abigail Pohren a ninth in Trampoline, and Emmelia Miller, Sarah McAvan and Marissa Rupe each a 10th in Trampoline.

Marissa Rupe and Amber Burroughs brought home a fourth place in Synchronized Trampoline Advanced level at their age bracket.

Thirteen more athletes made the Top 15, including: Cecelia Murphy with an 11th place in Trampoline, Emma Metcalf with a 13th in Trampoline, Lillian Haynes, Jersey Money and Alma White with a 14th in Double Mini.

Lillie Sage came home with a 16th in Trampoline; Isobel Murphy and Ana Carminhato with an 18th in Trampoline; Tori Haynes with a 21st in both Trampoline and Double Mini; Adria Goodrich with 30th and Lauren Martin with a 34th out of 54 girls also.

Coaches Jeff and Jeanne Ide were very happy with the team’s results.

Jeff remarked, “These kids competed against 2,500 other trampolinists, many of whom have been practicing their skills and going to nationals for a number of years. The fact that 23 out of 27 from Ide Gymnastics team members were national Top 15, and 17 of our team members made it into the Top 10 national finishers, is something for the team to feel very proud of, especially since a number of them have only been taking lessons for a few months.

“We are going to move forward with both the gymnastics and the trampoline teams this coming year. I don’t doubt that we’ll bring home more trophies next year; these kids are ready to do what it takes to succeed.”

Jeanne added that the group posts videos and information to its Facebook page.
